Wake up to Chumby

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

No, no, its not the newest version of the Tamagotchi. Chumby is the first digital alarm clock. “But wait!…” you say, “I’ve had a digital alarm clock since I was about six.” Yeah, yeah, so have I. But the Chumby is digital by today’s standards. Plug in your Chumby and the first step to setting it up is connecting it to you home wifi network (can your “digital” alarm clock do that?). Once connected, you can select from 500+ widgets to install on your Chumby.

Suddenly this alarm clock doesn’t look so much like an alarm clock, does it? The Chumby can be connected to news feeds, video channels, webcams, your flickr account, and just about anything else online. My only gripe - granted, I haven’t used one yet - is the design. Does the coolest alarm clock-cum-bedside digital hub really have to look like a headrest-mounted in-car DVD system ripped out of a mid-90’s SUV?
