Tomorrow, furniture design company Blu Dot will launch their Real Good Experiment on the streets of NYC. Known for their well designed, mid-priced contemporary furniture (I’m thoroughly enjoying the Paramount Sofa I scored during their 20% off sale recently), Blu Dot is starting the experiment in an attempt to give a little back:

When we opened our SoHo store in 2008, we became surrounded by the resourceful culture of “curb-mining”: the act of finding furniture and art on the street. Now that a year has passed, our friends at mono approached us with a way to conduct a curb-mining experiment of our own: What would happen if we left a bunch of Real Good Chairs all over New York, free for the take? Who will grab them? Where will they go? How will they get there? What will their new homes look like?

Thus, the REAL GOOD experiment was born.

So basically, they’re leaving a bunch (well, 25) of chairs sitting out around the city for people to grab. Cool, right? But wait, it gets soooo much better! They’re also tagging some of those chairs with a GPS unit that can be tracked on the Real Good Experiment page. The map isn’t live yet, but should kick off tomorrow with the launch of the experiment. They’ve also got a Twitter account dedicated to the experiment, but I haven’t figured out exactly what it will be used for yet. It would be awesome if the chairs tweeted their location!

Keep an eye on the experiment tomorrow and Thursday to see how it unfolds.

Perhaps they have something to do with the design contest from January?

Rocket World Creature Hoody Design Blitz!

rocketworldcontest

I caught this on NotCot yesterday and couldn’t help but offering up a post myself. I noticed Rocket World’s Creature hoodies back around the holidays and they’re nothing short of awesome. They’re the perfect mix of cozy warmth and irreverent humor. And, with Where the Wild Things Are launching shortly, one of these hoodies could be the perfect accoutrement for those waiting in line (if it would just cool off already, of course).

Rocket World is working on some new designs for their Creature line, and they’ve turned to the masses to help them determine how those new designs should come to life. And, to sweeten the pot, they’re offering up a chance to win one of the new hoodies as well as a goody bag just for taking a few minutes to share your opinion with them. Take a look at the images below to see which of the new designs you prefer. Once you’ve picked, drop them an email at contests@rocketworld.org with your selection to be entered for your chance to win.

ThingsAmongMany on Digg

Was doing some searching this morning and came across a Digg post for our WallBlank give-away. A big thanks to user slvrfrg for getting the word out there! Don’t forget to vote and to enter!

Wall Blank

So after yesterday’s post about Wall Blank, I got a very nice email from Shawn Kelley, the man behind the scenes and founder of the newly formed company. He was thrilled to see our post and had some really exciting thoughts about the upcoming artists who will be featured on Wall Blank.

And, to top it off, Shawn was gracious enough to offer us two coupons that will cover the cost of a poster or two. And, as much as I need some wall-coverings of my own, I’m more excited to see what the readers around here are are in need of. So we’re going to give them away!

Here’s the deal:
Submit a comment on this post with a photo (or link to a photo) of the space you need to spruce up, along with a concise and compelling explanation of what you’re thinking about doing with it and why a fresh new poster would help. No novels, just a quick thought on what you’re excited to do with your space.

A week from today, on Wednesday the 12th, we’ll dig through the submissions and select our two faves to receive the coupons. Just be prepared to report back with fresh photos once your new posters are on the walls!

And thanks again to Shawn - I’m sure he’ll be interested to see the results as well!
