The Ultimate List of Twitter Tools

Twitter

Not too long ago, I started bookmarking Twitter-related stuffs as I came across them. Then the “big Twitter wave” hit, and I’ve been adding 3-4 listings per day over the last couple of weeks. I figured it was about time to share everything I’ve come up with so far. I’ll continue adding to it as I find more. If you know of something I’ve missed, PLEASE call it out in comments so I can get it added to the list!

If you’re into it, please feel free to tweet/retweet the list and gimme a follow/shout @AmongMany. I’ve also cross-posted on BrandsAmongMany. And, since this list is about 285 items, it’s a little tough to crawl through. So I’ve culled it down to the 15 apps (by category) that I think you should look at in a separate post.

Looking for the list? It’s after the jump…

The other day I wrote up TwiToShirt.com, a service that lets you submit any tweet and have it printed on your choice of tees (or other items) – sidebar, it looks like they’ve redesigned the site since that post. Today, however, on a quick jaunt through Racked.com, I noticed their discussion of a significantly more awesome Tweet-on-shirt setup.

Created by Squidder, this new take integrates the new tech-trend of augmented reality. By printing a unique bar code on the shirt, a Twitterer’s latest Tweet can be displayed via any device that can read the code (a mobile device or computer with camera being the most obvious). Check it out here:

Pooptags: Tweet your poops

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Ok, its official, Twitter is taking over the world. Not only can you tweet your eats (check out @having), but now you can tweet…the results as well. Something that I’d never have thought about adding to Twitter, though I can’t really say I’m surprised that someone else did: Pooptag!

Pooptag allows you to either covertly, or openly, Tweet your Poop habits to the world. Part game, part…social experiment, all fun? Here’s what they have to say about it:

How to win

  • I wouldn’t necessarily call it winning
  • The idea is to “tag” someone pooping at the same time you are
  • You can’t really lose, since PoopTag strives to be both encouraging and enlightening

Why?

  • Think of it as a sort of “digital laxative”
  • You’ll enjoy all the benefits of a social defecation network, e.g. Poop Cycle Compatibility Matching
  • It gives you something to do — plus some people to be with — while you poop

Geeky Usefullness: Can your washer Tweet?

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Yeah, I’m a fan of Twitter. And yeah, I have to wash my clothes occasionally. Put the two together, and you’ve got Ryan Rose’s tweeting Washing Machine. Need I say more?

I’ll let him explain the rest:

EDIT: Apparently YouTube hasn’t approved the audio for the video yet. Hopefully it’ll be up soon.

TipJoy: Making it even easier to share your cash

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

TipJoyYeah, yeah, of course we all have PayPal. But if you’re anything like me, you know at least 17 people who have had some issue or another with those guys. Heck, I spent the better part of last week bouncing emails back and forth with them trying to get funds released - not exactly confidence inspiring. Of course, PayPal isn’t going away anytime soon for things like ebay payments. But for simple donations, there is a new way!

TipJoy is a new web-based service that makes it uber-simple to collect donations - or donate to your favorite sites - online. Signup is easy with the usual email/password. But what makes TipJoy really stand out is their Twitter integration. You can also sign up via your Twitter name and password, and users can tweet their donations directly from Twitter!

They also offer integration into a number of blogging platforms with either a basic, or a fully customizable button. It looks like some of the features still need a bit of work - there’s not much to do in your profile settings page (looks like there’s a place for a picture, but nowhere to upload one…). But overall, TipJoy could prove a worthwhile alternative for certain PayPal functions.

FoodFeed - Share what you eat

FoodFeed.us

You may have noticed our recent post about What I Had For Lunch Today, our fun little Flickr project/experiment where everyone can share their lunch. Not long after that was posted, we noticed a friend Tweet a verbal version of her lunch to @having. Of course, we were intrigued and began to investigate…

A visit to @having’s Twitter profile revealed that the profile is the Twitter component of a bigger project that lives at FoodFeed.us. Similar to What I Had For Lunch Today, FoodFeed allows users to share what they’re eating simply by tweeting it to @having. If you go to the FoodFeed site, you can peruse what other people are eating or just dig back through your own meals.

FoodFeed.us

The site claims that more features are in the pipeline. And, before you go looking for too much purpose behind it, they readily state that FoodFeed is

not really useful. It’s just fun. And if you can make something useful out of it, we would be happy

So go have some fun, share your food, and if you’re inclined, do what we do…post it as photos!

Textgasm: like Twitter, but a bit naughtier

Textgasm

What do you get when you take a mechanism similar to Twitter and add the suffix “gasm” to the title? Well, you get Textgasm. Textgasm is an anonymous, Twitter-like site dedicated to sharing secrets. You submit that little tidbit that you’re just itching to share with the world - anonymously - and it populates a stream of secrets that anyone can stopy by and read. Unlike Twitter, Textgasm also offers users the ability to comment on other’s secrets.

Textgasm

And, not one to miss out on the phenomenon of the Twitterverse, the secrets at Textgasm can also be viewed by following @Textgasm on Twitter.

Of course, be forewarned, anonymity online breeds some raunchiness. It seems that, until Textgasm takes off a bit more, you might encounter some more…PG-13 secrets being share.

TweetBeep and Google Alerts

Ever wanted to keep track of…anything? Want to know when someone tweets your name? Or when your site comes up in a Google search? There are tools out there to do just that. And who doesn’t want to know who’s talking about them?

Google Alerts lets you set up a daily, weekly, or at-once email notice of when your chosen terms come up in new search results. TweetBeep offers similar functionality specific to Twitter with plenty of specifications around defining your search terms. In fact, we were talking about this service for Twitter around the POKE office yesterday. While TweetBeep is cool, we’d really like to see a similar service offered that would put the alert directly in your Twitter stream rather than sending it via email (this may not exist due to limitations with Twitter’s API).

What are some of your other favorite services for keeping track of your digital life?
